The Druk Path Trek is one of Bhutan’s most popular short treks, connecting Paro and Thimphu through beautiful forests, alpine meadows and high mountain passes. The trek is ideal for travellers who want to experience Bhutan’s Himalayan landscape without committing to a long, high-altitude expedition.
Day 1: Paro – Jele Dzong
- Trek: Paro → Jele Dzong
- Duration: 4–5 hours
- Distance: Approximately 10 km
- Altitude: Up to around 3,500 m
- Overnight: Camp at Jele Dzong
Begin the trek from above Paro Valley and gradually ascend through blue pine and fir forests. As you gain altitude, the views across Paro Valley become increasingly impressive. On a clear day, you may catch your first glimpse of the snow-covered Himalayan peaks.
Day 2: Jele Dzong – Jangchulakha
- Trek: Jele Dzong → Jangchulakha
- Duration: 4–5 hours
- Distance: Approximately 10 km
- Altitude: Around 3,600–3,780 m
- Overnight: Camp at Jangchulakha
Continue along a forested trail before reaching open alpine landscapes. The route passes through yak-grazing areas, and you may encounter yak herders along the way. The campsite offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
Day 3: Jangchulakha – Jimilangtsho
- Trek: Jangchulakha → Jimilangtsho
- Duration: 4–5 hours
- Altitude: Around 3,880 m
- Overnight: Camp near Jimilangtsho Lake
This section takes you through spectacular alpine terrain and across ridges with panoramic Himalayan views. The highlight is Jimilangtsho, one of Bhutan’s beautiful high-altitude lakes, famous for its clear waters and peaceful surroundings.
Day 4: Jimilangtsho – Simkotra
- Trek: Jimilangtsho → Simkotra
- Duration: 4–5 hours
- Altitude: Around 4,100 m
- Overnight: Camp at Simkotra
The trail climbs gradually through rugged mountain terrain and alpine vegetation. This is one of the highest sections of the trek. On clear days, the surrounding Himalayan peaks create an unforgettable backdrop.
Day 5: Simkotra – Thimphu
- Trek: Simkotra → Phajoding → Thimphu
- Duration: 6–7 hours
- Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
- Highest point: Phume La, approximately 4,200 m
- Destination: Thimphu
Begin the day with a gradual ascent from Simkotra toward Phume La, the highest point of the Druk Path Trek. From the pass, enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks before beginning the descent toward Phajoding.
Continue downhill through beautiful alpine and forested landscapes until reaching Phajoding Monastery. From Phajoding, the trail descends further through pine and fir forests toward Thimphu Valley, where your trekking journey ends.
Upon arrival in Thimphu, meet your vehicle and transfer to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
